Ice Skating at Boston Harbor Hotel – noon to 3 p.m. – Boston Harbor Hotel, 70 Rowes Wharf – Work some of the feasting off with a couple spins around the outdoor rink at Rowes Wharf. Who knows, the Cookie Monster trucks could be parked nearby too, if you're lucky. Free.
MIT Chain Reaction – 1 to 4 p.m. – MIT, Rockwell Cage Gymnasium – "What is the Friday After Thanksgiving (F.A.T.) Chain Reaction? A grand event that could only happen at MIT! Participants link their chain reaction devices together forming one mega chain reaction – set off at the end as the event's thrilling culmination." More than 1,500 people are expected to attend. Free.
Macy's Holiday Tree Lighting – 5 p.m. – Macy's Downtown – The annual Black Friday tradition, this free event features performances by entertainers featured in Macy’s New York City Thanksgiving Day Parade and an appearance by Mayor Marty Walsh. Free.
Saturday
Harvard Square Cash Mob – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Locations around Harvard Square – Celebrating Small Business Saturday, get out and spend some cash at worthy Boston businesses. It's a great excuse to splurge a bit and help out those in your community. Admission is $10.
Free Movies at Assembly Row – Saturday, 11/28, 10 a.m. to Saturday, 12/12, 1 p.m. – Assembly Row, Somerville – Here's the lineup: Saturday, 11/28 at 10 a.m. - Elf; Saturday, 12/5 at 10 a.m. - Home Alone; Saturday, 12/12t at 10 a.m. - The Polar Express. RSVPs required.
30th Annual Boston Tuba Christmas Concert – 2 to 5:30 p.m. – Faneuil Hall – Watch over 150 tuba players serenade the crowd with all your favorite holiday classics. Free.

Boston Ballet: The Nutcracker – Through Thursday, 12/31 – Boston Opera House – "Let Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker capture your imagination and transport you to a magical world of brave toy soldiers and dancing candy canes." If you haven't, it's time. If you have, go back. Admission starts at $35.
